Brevard County Awards Ocean Gate Another Park Project
Date: 09-30-2009

Stuart, FL - Brevard County Parks and Recreation recently gave the the "Go ahead" to Ocean Gate General Contractors, Inc. for the construction of the new Christenson’s Landing Park in Grant, Florida.  This 4.38-acre site on the Indian River Lagoon will provide boaters with access to the intracoastal and Atlantic from the four new fixed docks, 1 floating dock, and two wood staging docks.  Ocean Gate will demolish the existing seawalls and create a new coquina rock shoreline protection system.  A new restroom facility will be added along with new parking areas, a turn lane from US 1 into the park, landscaping and signage.  The park will receive split rail fencing on the east and west boundaries, and a six-foot privacy fence to the north and south.  More than 118 trees and more than one thousand shrubs will be added, providing shade and a welcome surrounding.  A manatee educational kiosk will alert boaters to the gentle giants who inhabit the waters in this area.

The challenge of this project will be the installation of a double turbidity curtain within 20-feet of the construction at the waterway.  Ocean Gate will surround and isolate the construction area from the surrounding waters of the Indian River Lagoon. Ocean Gate has a large portfolio of previous park assignments that needed environmental protection, and they have unfailingly met these goals.  The team has completed many ocean beach parks in Indian and Brevard County, including the Wabasso Ocean Park Restoration completed last April.

The park will be open for the public’s use by the spring of 2010.  Michael Cason, LEED AP is the project manager for Ocean Gate, and Jeff Willard will be Project Superintendent.  Michael and Jeff have just completed the South Beach Community Gymnasium and Park for Brevard County to high praise. They are looking forward to continuing their relationship with Ocean Gate Contractors, Inc.  The Brevard County Project Manager from the South Beach Project said that, “he would like to have the Ocean Gate team on any project anywhere in the world.”
