Good for You: 'Garden Party' fundraiser

A sun-filled afternoon at Mariner Sands Country Club provided the perfect setting for "Garden Party," a luncheon benefiting Alzheimer’s Community Care. The event began with the more than 240 guests browsing and bidding on an enticing variety of silent auction items while sipping Mimosas. Proceeds from the event will support the services and resources of Alzheimer’s Community Care in Martin County including the Stuart day care center, family nurse consultants and 24-hour crisis line.

Luncheon chairwoman Mercie Peach welcomed the guests and introduced and thanked the event’s Diamond Sponsor, John Pierson of Toyota of Stuart, for his generosity and continuing support. Additional "Garden Party" sponsors recognized were: Sapphire Sponsor, Ocean Gate General Contractors, Inc.; … Bobbie Trimble and Zeta Technology, Inc. Media sponsors were Stuart Magazine and The Stuart News.

A live auction for a specially designed, handmade necklace donated by Diamonds by Terry commenced, with John Pierson the winning bidder.

Barry Grant, the afternoon’s master of ceremonies introduced John Loesser, executive director of the Lyric Theatre. A presentation "Frank Loesser and the Guys and Dolls in His Life," with Doc Grober on piano, was a lively reminiscence of his father’s outstanding Broadway career which featured his popular Broadway hit songs.

Mary Barnes, president and CEO of Alzheimer’s Community Care, enthusiastically and with deepest appreciation thanked the sponsors, guests and the committee for their support for making this fundraiser such a success. She also spoke briefly of the organization’s recent appearance in Washington, D.C., before the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging. The hope is that the information will be used to develop a national model of care that could one day be instituted under the National Institute of Health.

Alzheimer’s Community Care serves as an innovative model of care that advocates for services and resources to promote and provide specialized, compassionate, quality care to Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders for patients and caregivers. Alzheimer’s Community Care is a United Way agency. For more information, call (561)683-2700 or visit www.alzcare.org
