Annual Leadership Trek to San Salvador
Date: 07-21-2009

Each year, the Ocean Gate General Contractor’s project manager’s travel to San Salvador to "recharge their batteries", enjoy the camaraderie of their peers, and try to find the grandfather all of marlins.  This year Ben Herd landed a 500-pound Marlin, winning peer recognition for the  largest  recorded catch.  The team exercise "catch and release" to allow the fish to grow larger for next year’s adventure.

Mark MacDonald, President of Ocean Gate General Contractors has a special interest in  San Salvador and her people.  Over the years, he has come to know the local residents, and the broad geography of the island.  Each year he spends his "down time" on the island, thinking of new ways to grow his successful construction company.

Several years ago, he became aware of the litter accumulating on the island and in its' surrounding waters.  His mind had been percolating with ideas to reverse the trend when he settled on the goal of opening a recycling plant on the island. Last year he oversaw the opening of the San Salvador Recycling Plant.  In addition to beginning the process of cleaning up the island and its waters, he has enlisted the support of local residents to run the plant, thus bringing economic opportunity to this island community.

Mark MacDonald’s concern for the environment is a personal pursuit.  He is an active boater, and local resident of the Stuart area, and is passionate about leaving the community a better one than he found it.  Ocean Gate is transforming an old dump site at 950 S.E. Monterey Road, into a Class “A” Office Complex, The Eco Center.  This center will be a resource center for the community to learn about green building practices, products, and ideas to improve energy efficiency. Water conservation, and environmental conservation of existing structures in the area will also be a focus.  Crossroads Architecture, Inc. is the architect for the project, along with an impressive team of local stars dedicated to green building practices.  Watch The Eco Center become a reality by visiting our website www.theecocenter.com

At Ocean Gate, we are showing the way to a future for green building practices with exciting results!  Our Construction – Your Future Environment – Watch it Happen!
