RIVIERA BEACH — The city council approved a $2.2 million contract tonight for the second phase of improvements at the Dan Calloway Recreation Complex on West 10th Street.

Ocean Gate General Contractors of Stuart will install new lighting and landscaping and build a new south parking lot, tennis courts, a racquetball court and a water playground.

The contract also calls for demolition of an old pool, building new restrooms and completing a fitness trail.

Grading and paving work to be done by a Riviera Beach subcontractor, G&H Parker Construction, adds 24 percent minority participation to the contract and exceeds the city's goal of 15 percent minority participation.

The phase-two improvements are expected to be complete by mid-January.

Purchasing Director Ben Guy said plans originally called for a new gymnasium in a third phase of work but noted that the city has depleted funds for work at the Dan Calloway complex.

Councilman Cedrick Thomas said he would like the city to find money to rebuild the Tate gymnasium at the Calloway complex and the gym at the Wells Recreation Center, possibly using money from an upcoming bond issue.

Amadou Dial, of Ocean Gate will lead the project as Project Manager.
Stuart, Florida

The contract valued at $2,200,000.00 will include a water park, new restrooms and storage facilities, site lighting, landscaping, irrigation and hardscapes, 124 parking spaces, a multi-purpose field, tennis courts, racket ball courts, and the completion of the basketball courts.  The Basketball courts will feature a flexi pave system final application.  A new parking area directly to the south of the park will provide an additional 64 parking spaces and an entrance to the park from Martin Luther King Boulevard.
