Description

The Albert Whitted Airport was awarded the 2009 Florida General Aviation Airport of the Year by the Florida DOT, and Ocean Gate is assisting the airport in its’ upgrade of facilities. Work is underway on a new air traffic control tower facility.

City officials gathered May 28th to formerly “break ground”. More than fifty local residents were in attendance as Bill Foster, Mayor of the City of St. Petersburg welcomed this construction project that was so long in the making. Congressman Bill Young worked tirelessly to secure the additional funding needed from the FAA.

The Five Story, 3,057 square foot, and 85-foot tall facility has pilings in place going down into the earth more than sixty-feet to support the foundation. The next phase of construction will see the vertical shaft rise up eighty-five feet to the tower cab. The precast panels that will make up the tower shaft will have two aircraft images embedded into the concrete; "The Benoist", and "Ryan Broughm" with Albert Whitted dimensional lettering on all sides. The building will be rated with withstand winds of 130 mph. In addition to the tower, the team will construct a new unmanned national weather service monitoring station south of the tower. After commissioning the new tower, the existing tower will be demolished and new landscaping and hardscapes will be installed. Site work, site lighting, and additional parking spaces are also included in the scope of work. Work is proceeding on schedule.

The City’s capital improvements for the airport include: a new Air Traffic Control Tower, a parallel taxiway on the north side of Runway 7/25, and expansion of the terminal ramp. Construction on these projects is expected to start in 2010. In the fall of 2009, the City also started the design process for an expanded aircraft parking ramp on the south side of the airport.

Description

Ocean Gate General Contractors, Inc. and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection have come together to develop the infrastructure for the Atlantic Ridge State Park in Stuart, Florida. This park is one of eleven distinct habitats created to preserve threatened and endangered species of plants and animals. This 5,816 acre park is being carefully developed to eventually provide visitors with trails for hiking and horseback riding, fishing and wildlife viewing. Currently there are no facilities.

Ocean Gate is building a pre-engineerred metal building that will serve as a shop for the park employees, and a pre-engineered metal building to house equipment and vehicles. FDEP selected Ocean Gate for the project because of the close relationship they have developed in managing construction projects on sensitive lands requiring a light footprint.

The park isn’t open to the public, but can be accessed for hiking by calling the ranger station at Jonathan Dickinson Park. The most dominant natural community in the park is the wet praire, an important foraging area for herons and egrets, as well as the Florida sandhill crane and wood stork. The Atlantic Ridge Ecosystem project’s goal is to protect the largest remaining islands of natural land left on the east coast by conserving important scrub, pine flatwoods, narshes, and South Fork’s floodplain on the St. Lucie River. Protection will also be provided for the quality of water in the St. Lucie and Loxahatchee River basins and the public will have the opportunity to enjoy the original landscape of Southeastern Florida.

The area includes the headwaters of the South Fork St. Lucie River, part of the drainage basin of the Loxahatchee River, an outstanding florida water, and is important for water supply to coastal Martin County.

Other recognizable projects Ocean Gate and FDEP have completed include the Jensen Beach Causeway, The Savannahs State Park, The Mary Brogan State Park, and the Jonathan Dickinson Environmental Center and Campground. In total there have been thirty throughout the State of Florida.

Description

Stuart, FL - Brevard County Parks and Recreation recently gave the the "Go ahead" to Ocean Gate General Contractors, Inc. for the construction of the new Christenson’s Landing Park in Grant, Florida. This 4.38-acre site on the Indian River Lagoon will provide boaters with access to the intracoastal and Atlantic from the four new fixed docks, 1 floating dock, and two wood staging docks. Ocean Gate will demolish the existing seawalls and create a new coquina rock shoreline protection system. A new restroom facility will be added along with new parking areas, a turn lane from US 1 into the park, landscaping and signage. The park will receive split rail fencing on the east and west boundaries, and a six-foot privacy fence to the north and south. More than 118 trees and more than one thousand shrubs will be added, providing shade and a welcome surrounding. A manatee educational kiosk will alert boaters to the gentle giants who inhabit the waters in this area.

The challenge of this project will be the installation of a double turbidity curtain within 20-feet of the construction at the waterway. Ocean Gate will surround and isolate the construction area from the surrounding waters of the Indian River Lagoon. Ocean Gate has a large portfolio of previous park assignments that needed environmental protection, and they have unfailingly met these goals. The team has completed many ocean beach parks in Indian and Brevard County, including the Wabasso Ocean Park Restoration completed last April.

The Brevard County Project Manager from the South Beach Project, recently completed by Ocean Gate; said that, “he would like to have the Ocean Gate team on any project anywhere in the world.”

Description

The City of Fort Pierce awarded Ocean Gate General Contractors, Inc. the contract to rebuild the Northwest Pioneer Park. Public parks not only contribute to the physicsl and aesthetic quality of a neighborhood; today policy makers credit parks for providing job opportunities, promoting youth development, public health, and community building. The Northwest Pioneer Park has all of the elements to provide this boost to the neighborhood.

A new trellised entry way into the park is decorated with artful brick pavers. Once inside the park a new sidewalk will wind around new basketball courts, picnic pavilions, benches, fountains, and a central restroom facility. In the spirit of providing local jobs, Ocean Gate is providing the foundation, and the City of Fort Pierce will complete the work by installing the playground equipment, the restroom facility, and a spray area for resident children to cool themselves.

The trees have been preserved, or relocated and will blend with new landscaping. A column and beam six-foot wall will surround the facility. New site lighting and parking will round out the Ocean Gate contribution to the project. The park is classified as an “Open Access” park, which means that handicapped park visitors will be able to access all of the park from an accessible curb transition into the park to the swings and basketball courts . The project is on track to be completed by the beginning of August, 2010.

Description

Stuart, FL - The City of Stuart Commissioners awarded Ocean Gate General Contractors, Inc. a contract to upgrade the city’s Wastewater Treatment Facility Odor Control System. The scope of work will include new construction of six pre-engineered metal building structures with chemical-resistant coatings and related odor-control equipment systems. The structures will cover the exposed components of the waste water treatment facility, including the three large digester tanks, a chlorine contact basin, and the headwork’s and blower buildings. Odor control systems with boilers will “scrub” the odors from the air.

This work will be phased, and site logistics will be key in not disturbing the daily operations of the facility.

Ocean Gate General Contractors, Inc. was selected because of the effort the firm invested in understanding the special requirements of a sensitive project. The facility will continue with full operations during construction. The new systems will be in place by March, 2011.

Stuart, FL - The South Florida Water Management District is a regional, governmental agency that oversees the water resources in the southern half of the state - 16 counties from Orlando to the Keys. It is the oldest and largest of the state's five water management districts, and has just celebrated 60 years of service to Florida.
